California Mountain Adventures - East Fork Gold Prospecting

in hive-114105 •  4 months ago

Welcome to this edition of

California Mountain Adventures!!

In this adventure I head up into the San Gabriel mountains for a gold prospecting trip on...

the East Fork!!

I headed back up to my regular spot above the Narrows on the East Fork San Gabriel river for some more gold prospecting. It was a great trip with almost perfect weather. And I found some really nice pickers(pieces of gold that are big enough to easily pick up with your fingers)!! My old hole was all filled in from recent flooding, but when that happened it washed away my huge tailings pile and the entire section of river right there seemed to drop down a couple feet or so. This left the good pay dirt layer, an old Caliche layer, that was once buried deep under my tailings pile exposed for me to easily dig. Which I did!!

When I left, I hiked out on a weekend (which I rarely do) and so I got to see some of the crazy bungee jumpers at the Bridge to Nowhere! It's a lot of fun to watch... but I think I'll stick to gold prospecting. Haha! Anyways, as usual it was another awesome trip on the East Fork!

Yep, it was a good trip!

legit bro... love these explorations... be well be safe and enjoy... see you in dem hillsss...

Thanks @krazypoet! There's gold in dem der hills! lol.

Oh man! I can almost hear that river water running. I used to make a habit of going up the local mountains and just sitting by the river, but I have not done that in years.

I love the sound of the river. I swear sometimes it talks to me!

It probably does :)

Looks like a nice place. Did the Bridge use to go somewhere?

They started building a tunnel into the hillside on the far side of the bridge, but then a major flood hit in 1936 and washed out most of the road up there and it was never rebuilt so the bridge was abandoned. Later the tunnel entrance was collapsed in.

Wow, a long time for a bridge to nowhere. Do they do any maintenance on the bridge, or does it just kind of sit there falling slowly apart?

It was bought by a private company in 1989. They do bungee jumping off the bridge!

I thought I had seen the bridge in a couple of movies so at least someone is maintaining it and making money at the same time.

Yes. I'm glad Bungee America owns it. If the forest service ever gets their hands on that property they will probably destroy it.

Wow, that is not a high bridge. Nice pickers. If that keeps up we might have another Pickerton on our hands! Any plans to do a video out there?

The bridge is 120 feet tall. Just high enough for some gnarly bungee jumping. lol.

I've pulled lots of pickers from this area. I've seen some of Dan Hurd's videos from Pickerton, that's some nice gold!! I've made 2 prospecting videos. One from when I was first starting to prospect and another one after a few more years once I knew a little more about what I was doing. Here's a link to the second one if you wanna check it out -

Someday I'm sure I'll make another video. I just gotta get back into it.
